I have not seen the St Joe. It has been described as more like the Canadian rivers. Narrow and twisty with some modest rapids-lots of sneaker type of stuff-you will have to pay attention. (I do not know when the Google pics were taken-if in late summer the character of the river will be much different than in mid-April when run off begins :) )

The Snake will be the same course that was just run for the "Thunder on the Snake" in late August-look for some of the vids and pics-some flat, but some pretty good "stuff", especially when you get upstream of Heller Bar-and again this will be in April when the rivers are starting to grow....... Look closely at some of the pictures from the race. Note especially the nose areas of the boats. Some took some damage from the water that was encountered.

Gary what's the plan for Riggins, will the course be what it has been for the last several years or the "old course" extended down towards Whitebird? And if so how many miles? Thanks for your early updates, appreciate it!

The Canadian's did a great job with there course maps this year, it was very clear exactly what the course consisted of would be nice if we could do the same! I was asked last U.S. Championship to do the same but just didn't have the computer skills to pull it off.

The Whitebird to Island Bar run would be a great one for at least one upriver run, BUT it is doubtful we can get the Idaho State Police to agree. In the "old" days it was very problematic with the wild traffic and intoxicated folk driving along Federal Highway 95, which is the road all along that course, during the race. Lots of folk driving on the wrong side of the road and people hanging out of cars and the backs of trucks mostly at high speed. Folks were "parked", many illegally, all along the roadway to watch causing access and traffic flow problems .

In the "old" days we had to get permission from MANY agencies, including the ISP. One of the reasons the course was shortened and NOT run from Hammer Creek to Island Bar (or further) was the unwillingness of the ISP to sign off on the long course. Institutionally they seem to have long memories........

There will be at least 80 miles worth of running on the Salmon no matter what we end up with.

**The Race Committee would like to entertain an old system of each community “Hosting a Race Team”—we will leave this up to the racers, but we’d like to make sure any and all race teams are accommodated, even at private residences, especially in these smaller communities with fewer accommodations to offer. This would help race teams cut down on travel time and expenses—and the communities love it!

Well looking at the coverage map off of Verizon Wireless there is a 3G uplink in almost the entire race. If all works out I might be able to get my hands on a camera the will hook-up to my laptop along with a satellite link through my phone run the video through my laptop into a FMLE (Flash Media Live Encoder) basically what I did last year at Riggins, and you could actually watch the races live for about 5 days. I will not try and use a web cam again since the picture was terrible and I couldn't zoom. With this set-up I would be able to zoom in on the boats of what ever else might come up during the races. Now if I can get the time off. That is another story.

Chris
